Colleen Hoover Ruined Reading Romance

Bookstagram and Booktok have really been pushing CoHo these last few months so I of course had to know what all the fuss is about. Well safe to say I am hooked. If you missed my latest monthly roundup check it out here. Colleen Hoover Ruined Reading Romance for me and I am not mad.

What would we do without the internet? Probably read more, let’s be honest here! However, thanks to the internet I have received so many awesome recommendations for books, series, and authors. Now, Colleen Hoover has been on the writing scene for a while now, but only recently thanks to social media, has her works blown up even more. Safe to say, this author has been added to many instant buy lists. (Including mine).

To get a good idea of what her writing is like I picked a selection of books; The three here I think show a good variety of what CoHo writes

***My Reviews do have spoilers in them so if you do not want spoilers, come back for my next post!***

Layla by Colleen Hoover

I will preface this by saying I read this in one sitting. And I am still in a state of what is this?

Ok, so compared to other CoHo this is a more wtf is happening book with many many red flags on both sides of the relationship. If you aren’t a frequent reader of fantasy, supernatural, or horror this may be shocking in the way the plot is handled.

Many reviews here say how it’s torture and abuse which is correct, but this is also supernatural as heck and it makes more sense for it to be the way it is? (Not defending any torture or abuse in relationships here, just read the genre.)

I liked the idea of the story, the supernatural aspect, the twist, Layla; but Leeds is not a desirable character.

All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover

The book is a beautifully crafted story of a relationship, the lows, and the highs, the breakdown, and the healing. Being so simple in the story I was not expecting to feel so many emotions!

I like how real the characters are, they aren’t perfect and their flaws are what bring them together and almost apart. It does describe depression in a very particular way that will either vibe with you or not. Everyone is different when it comes to their experience of mental health and this is no exception.

“When you meet someone who is good for you, they won’t fill you with insecurities by focusing on your flaws. They’ll fill you with inspiration because they’ll focus on all the best parts of you.”

It Ends with Us

You will either love this book or you will hate it. It’s the same as any other book written by the author in that sense. I of course loved it.
It is an easy read, good for the holidays. It does cover some heavy topics and I feel that is where it loses people. When it comes to writing about topics that are taboo to some people, they are expected to be written in the way the reader wants, so anything other than their opinion will be trashed and given a 1-star uber rating.
I see the flaws of the book, there are parts I think that are serial red flags and problematic but it did not affect the overall enjoyment the book gave me!
